Sister Catherine O’Brien, BVM, 99, died Aug. 7 at Marian Hall in Dubuque. Burial is in the Mount Carmel cemetery in Dubuque.
In the Diocese of Davenport, Sr. O’Brien taught elementary school at St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport (1948–51). She also taught elementary and secondary school, served as librarian, and ministered as a counselor in Mason City, Iowa; Chicago, Ill.; Burbank, Calif.; and Phoenix, Ariz.
She was born in Chicago on April 1, 1913, to Patrick and Catherine (O’Halloran) O’Brien. She entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM, congregation Sept. 8, 1933, from Our Lady of Angels Parish, Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1936, and final vows Aug. 15, 1941.
