Iowa City – Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Creative Voices for Nonviolence, peace activist and author, will speak Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. She has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
LITURGY/PRAYER
Bettendorf – A 40 Days for Life campaign will begin at the Women’s Choice Center on Sept. 26 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and close with prayer Nov. 3. Prayer location is on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood, 2751 Tech Drive. To sign up for an hour, call Jeanne Wonio at (563) 355-4188.
Davenport – A Soaking With A Purpose prayer meeting will take place Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Eagles’ Wings.
Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 21, at Sacred Heart Cathedral 10th and Iowa streets. Confessions start at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:30 p.m., and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.
MEETINGS
Iowa City — The Davenport Diocese’s Justice and Peace Advocacy Team will meet Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the lower level of St. Patrick Church. All are welcome.
RETREATS
Wheatland — Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat offers the following events. On Sept. 18 is “Fall Come to the Quiet,” 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Fee: $20. SOCIALS
Clinton – “Stop the Hate; Show the Love,” a walk for peace, will take place Sept. 20. Participants will gather at Clinton Community College at 5 p.m., hear a short program at 5:15 p.m., and begin walking at 5:30 p.m. Walk ends at Ashford University, followed by a short program including music from the Ashford choir and a butterfly release. Davenport – St. Paul the Apostle Parish Festival will take place Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food, refreshments, a raffle and games including the card game Showdown. St. Paul the Apostle is located at 916 E. Rusholme St.
Davenport – Assumption High School class of 1962 will hold its 50th class reunion at The Outing Club on Saturday, Sept. 22. Activities will kick off at the football game between Assumption and Clinton High School Sept. 20. Davenport – As it celebrates its 50th anniversary, Our Lady of Victory Parish invites people to a celebration. A picnic will be held Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. on the lawn behind the school. There will be live entertainment, activities for all ages, and fireworks. Bishop Martin Amos will celebrate Mass Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.
Davenport —  Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. is celebrating 22 years of service to the Quad Cities with a New Orleans-style Jazz Brunch at Crow Valley Golf Club Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sarah Marie Young, a Chicago vocalist, will be the featured entertainer. DeWitt – St. Joseph Parish, 417 Sixth Ave., will hold its fall festival Sunday, Sept. 16, from 3–7 p.m. A beef and pork dinner will cost $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Carryouts will be available: call (563) 320-3659. The event includes bingo, a raffle, bake sale, pop walk, farmers market, children’s games and silent auction.
East Pleasant Plain – Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish will hold its annual bazaar Sept. 16. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., and a buffet dinner with chicken breast and pork loin will follow from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children 3 to 12 years old and free for children younger than 3. A large auction will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a country store with crafts and baked goods, kids’ games, caramel apple booth, raffle and carriage rides.
Farmington – St. Boniface Parish’s annual fall dinner will take place Sept. 16 at Harmony High School six miles north of Farmington. Roast turkey, lamb and pork will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $8 per person or $3 for children younger than 10. There will be a cake walk, raffle, door prizes, gift baskets, silent auction, bazaar, bingo and bake sale.
Iowa City — Mothers of Young Children (MOYC) invites people to its Sept. 18 kickoff, a wine and cheese tasting from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Patrick Church. Learn more about MOYC, sign up for activities and find out about 2012-13 programming. Mechanicsville – St. Mary Parish’s annual ice cream social will take place Sept. 16 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and younger. A quilt raffle and country store will also take place. All are welcome.
Mount Pleasant – St. Alphonsus Parish will hold its Autumn Festival Sunday, Sept. 16. A roast beef dinner will be served in Manning Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $8 for people ages 11 and older, $5 for children ages 6-10 and free for children 5 and younger. A country store and silent auction will last all day. Bring a cookbook for the cookbook swap. There will be a raffle for a queen-sized quilt. Live auction begins at 12:15 p.m.
Oxford Junction – Sacred Heart Parish will hold its fall festival Sept. 16 beginning with a polka Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church, followed by a chicken and kolache dinner at the Oxford Junction Le­gionnaire Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pella – St. Mary Parish will hold its fall festival Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. at 726 218th Place. There will be carnival games, a cake walk, face painting, a country store, music, wine and beer tasting, prizes, food, and a “punkin chunkin” contest.  Rain or shine.  Tickets will be sold at the door — prices for food and events will vary.  Proceeds will go to the building fund.
Sigourney – St. Mary Parish is planning a fall festival and smoked chop dinner on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and free for children 10 and younger. There will also be games for kids, a jump house and cake walk.  A quilt will be raffled and cash cards given away hourly.
Victor – St. Bridget Parish will hold a chicken and ham family-style supper Sunday, Sept. 16, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned, handicapped-accessible church basement. Donations are $10 for adults, $5 for children 10 and younger, and free for children 5 and younger. Carryouts will be available, and there will be delivery in Victor. The event will include a country store with baked items and a quilt.
