Why did you become a deacon?
I knew the Lord had been calling me to ministry since I was a young boy and he finally wore me down and I said, “Yes, to my Lord!” Also, as I and the Church were discerning the diaconal call I was encouraged by others in my parish, especially my mentor Betty Mantsch. I will never be able to repay her for her patient guidance. My thank you to her and God will be to pass on the faith by being a mentor for others.
What ministries are you involved in?
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), baptismal preparation, Worship and Prayer Committee, sponsor couple, religious education for adults and Ecumenical Block Party. I also serve as a pastoral minister with Annette Lyons for the Arch Community.
What are your challenges?
Finding a balance between work, family and ministry for the Church. However, I have chosen the diaconal life and it has been the most wonderful 10 years of my life. Thanks be to God.
What is your favorite Scripture passage?
The Gospel of John 13: 1-15, which is the Washing of the Disciples’ Feet. My favorite verse in this passage is when Jesus asks his disciples and us, “Do you realize what I have done for you?” We will never be able to fully understand all that Jesus has done for us and yet Jesus commands us, “so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”
