Students’ prayers for Advent

Facebooktwittermail

Seventh- and eighth-graders in the Diocese of Davenport were invited to submit an original prayer for Advent to be published in The Catholic Messenger. Prayers were to reflect on a Scripture from one of the four Sundays of Advent: Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23.
We are grateful for the response. Each week in Advent we will print two prayers selected from among the entries submitted.

Dear Lord,
Maybe this is me who is asking
Or maybe this is everyone
But please Lord
Let us see your light

Maybe this is the whole world
Shouting
Maybe this is the universe
Asking
Please Lord
Let us see your light

Thank you Lord
For giving us a life
Thank you Lord
For giving us a chance
Thank you Lord
For showing us a path

Maybe this is me who is asking
Maybe this is everyone
But please Lord
Let us see your light

Here’s my last wish
Or maybe this is everyone’s
Please bless my mother
Please bless my father
Please bless my whole family
And please bless the whole world
With your light, with your light

Elizabeth Klesner

Dear God,
We are so thankful for all you have given and experience great joy in your presence.  We pray for you to return to our presence and may non-believers experience your love in a new way.  Light the way for your people to walk towards your direction.  May you spread your love to us and our love to our neighbors.  May we be ready for the Lord Jesus to come again and for us to finish our works here on Earth. Amen
(Based on 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13)
