Iowa City – Regina Catholic Education Center President and CEO Lee Iben will host a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace Uni­versity (FPU) on Wednesday evenings from 6:30–8 p.m. Jan. 16 through March 13, 2013. LECTURES
North English – St. Joseph Knights of Columbus #13503 are sponsoring a presentation by Matt Stutzman, “the inspirational archer,” and his father, Leon, on Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. at St Joseph Church. Matt is the 2012 Paralympic silver medalist in archery. They will discuss the life and accomplishments of Matt, who was born without arms. A light lunch will follow for a freewill offering. Matt is also hoping to demonstrate his archery skills.
LITURGY/PRAYER
Bettendorf – A centering prayer support group meets at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Monday mornings at 9 a.m. For more information call Jul at (563) 355-0611.
Coralville – St. Thomas More Parish’s Stephen Ministry will offer a Blue Christmas service Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. People dealing with a death, family crisis or other hurt are welcome to a quiet time of reflection with Scripture readings and songs of hope and comfort. Soup supper follows.
Davenport —  A healing Mass will be celebrated Dec. 21 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Confessions start at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:30 p.m., and Mass at 7:15 p.m.
Davenport – At Eagles’ Wings a Soaking With A Purpose prayer meeting is at 7 p.m. Dec. 14.
Davenport — The Sisters of Humility invite the general public to pray with them at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesdays during a special Mass for peace. It will be celebrated in the Magnificat Chapel at the Humility of Mary Center, 820 W. Central Park Ave.
Iowa City — People meet to pray the rosary and receive Communion at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Melrose Meadows Retirement Community. All Catholics are welcome.
Iowa City — Centering prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.
Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Mass begins at 8 a.m., followed by 24 hours of adoration, and closes with benediction at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. For more information or to sign up for an hour, call Tony Humeston at (641) 932-7928.
Rock Island, Ill. – Traditional, semi-monastic Vespers or Evening Prayer will be held during the four Sundays of Advent at 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary Church. The Con­fra­ternity of the Fathers of St. Joseph welcomes all to this 30- to 40-minute Advent Prayer of the Divine Office or Liturgy of the Hours in English, with a touch of Latin. A simple meal will be served afterward. Upcoming dates are Dec. 16 and 23.
MEETINGS
Davenport – The St. Anthony grief group  began its nine weekly meetings in the St. Anthony Parish Library on Dec. 4 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.  The group will meet over the holidays, but the dates have not been set. Moline, Ill. – The Secular Discalced Carmelite Community of St. Joseph and the Prophet Elijah invites people to join in the study of prayer in the tradition of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. SOCIALS
Burlington —  Catholic Adult Fellowship Evenings (CAFÉ) will take place Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of Notre Dame High School on nights when religious education is in session. All adult Catholics in Des Moines County are welcome. Child care is provided.
Davenport – The Sacred Heart Cathedral Choir Ensemble will present a free Advent concert in the cathedral on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. The concert will include solo, duet and trio performances, as well as choral pieces for Advent and Christmas. Grand Mound — Father Bill Kneemiller will host a New Year’s Eve event at the Ss. Philip & James church hall on Monday, Dec. 31, following 6 p.m. Mass. The theme is Music Fest with area musicians invited. A potluck with an Italian cuisine theme is on the menu. A freewill donation will go to the missions in Haiti. Festivities conclude at 10 p.m. with time for Eucharistic adoration in the church hall and a full-length DVD on the life of Padre Pio. For more information, call Fr. Kneemiller at (563) 321-0124.
Iowa City — The Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick Church will be collecting 5 cent redemption cans and bottles the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon. The collection will take place at the west side of St. Patrick Church near the entrance to the Day Chapel. No need to sort cans.  Proceeds benefit “Right to Life” organizations in Johnson County.
