“Magnify God’s Mercy,” an Art of Faith sacred art show, is seeking entries from Catholics in the Diocese of Davenport. Submissions are being accepted through Jan. 31 and selected artwork will be displayed Feb. 23-24 in Farrell Hall at St. Pius X Parish in Rock Island, Ill.
“Our mission is to capture the beauty of the life of Jesus Christ by having a living faith in him,” said Jill Rodts, the event’s organizer. “As artists we are called to embrace Gospel values and proclaim them visually to the world sharing in the culture of life.”
Images portraying the beauty and holiness of the birth, public ministry, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as well as aspects of his divine life in the Roman Catholic faith tradition provide guidelines for the show. Acceptable artwork includes visual expressions of Jesus’ divine mercy, drawing on spiritual and corporal works of mercy, or any of the seven sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church.
Images depicting the beauty and holiness of the Blessed Mother, scenes of the rosary, saints, biblical scenes and characters are also encouraged, as well as all sacred art from aspiring artists ages 13–18.
