Lecture to blend politics, faith

DAVENPORT — James Daniel Philpott, Ph.D., will present “To Redeem the Time: Bringing Catholicism into Teaching of International Relations and Peace Studies” at 2 p.m. March 3 at the St. Ambrose University Rogalski Center Ballroom.  He is associate professor of political science and peace studies at the University of Notre Dame. The lecture is free and open to the public.
His lecture will reflect on his efforts to convince students their Catholic faith has everything to do with studying politics and the promotion of peace. He argues that the Church offers a vision of politics that differs from leading secular alternatives.
Philpott currently is publishing “Just and Unjust Peace: An Ethic of Political Reconciliation.” He trains political and religious leaders in reconciliation in Burundi and the broader Great Lakes region of Africa under the auspices of the Catholic Peace Building Network.
The Notre Dame Alumni Club of the Quad Cities has partnered with St. Ambrose University to bring this faith-based presentation to the community.
