DAVENPORT — A quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs football team surprised first-graders at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School as a mystery reader Feb. 20.
Alex Tanney, who will be in his second year with the Chiefs, read the book “Captain Underpants: Attack of the Talking Toilets” to first-graders in Ronie Opar’s classroom.
Mystery readers are brought in to read each week. Principal Julie Delaney said typically the readers are parents or grandparents of students. So this was a nice surprise.
“This program demonstrates to students the importance of reading, utilizing people in all walks of life, ages and in various careers.”
