PARNELL- Raymond M. J. Britten, age 98, of rural Parnell, died on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

Raymond was born on August 29, 1914, near What Cheer, Iowa, the son of Frank S. and Lucy Elizabeth (Haupert) Britten. He graduated from Keota High School in 1932. He served in the US Army during WWII. On August 10, 1942, he married Marie Anna Luers in San Luis Obispo, California. He was a life long farmer and resident of Southeastern Iowa. Raymond was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish- St. Mary Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and a lifetime member of the Keota VFW. He enjoyed farming, working, carpentry and doing farm improvements.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Grice of South English and Ethel (Gordon) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren: Thomas (Dr. Jennifer) Grice, Matthew Grice, Dr. Elizabeth (Mike Cornelius) Grice, Jennifer (Vince) Dvorak, Shelby (LeDawn) Britten, Ryan Britten, Tracy (Chris) Bond and Nikki (Corey) Stackhouse, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; wife Marie; son Ethan Britten; four sisters Helen Kaska, Dorothy Peck Loretta Greiner and one in infancy and a brother: John Britten.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Holy Trinity Parish- St. Mary Catholic Church, Keota. Rev. Charles Fladung will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemeteries – St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 20913, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m.
