Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
At this time of year we have the opportunity to reflect on how we have responded to the Gospel call to serve Jesus through the poor and vulnerable around the world. The theme for the Catholic Relief Services collection which is held on March 9-10 is Jesus in Disguise. How will you help?
The collection supports six Catholic organizations:
• Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international Catholic humanitarian overseas relief and development agency of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). CRS provides emergency relief and long-term assistance to help people become more self-sufficient.
• Migration and Refugee Services of the USCCB helps dioceses and churches to resettle refugees and actively helps victims of human trafficking. It is estimated that over 6.5 million women and girls are being sexually exploited in India alone. In Eastern Europe, young women are persuaded by friends or relatives to find employment abroad, but many times they are kidnapped and forced to work as prostitutes instead. Funds from the CRS collection assist Migration and Refugee Services with an on-the-ground response to help put an end to this modern form of slavery by providing job skills and education which offer a defense to thousands of young women so that they may never have to suffer the horror of being sold for other people’s use.
• The Holy Father’s Relief Fund assists victims of natural disasters and other emergencies around the world, including long-term reconstruction in Haiti and relief in Indonesia and the Philippines after destructive tropical typhoons.
• The Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development of the USCCB advocates for poor and vulnerable people throughout the world and works for international justice and world peace.
• The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) provides technical assistance and training to dioceses with immigration programs like ours in the Diocese of Davenport which offer counseling to immigrants who qualify for family reunification or legalization but need assistance in completing their federal applications.
• The Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church of the USCCB supports a network of national pastoral centers and diocesan personnel who minister to various ethnic groups and migrant communities.

Ayudando a los pobres
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas de Cristo,
En esta temporada del año, tenemos la oportunidad de reflexionar acerca de la manera que hemos respondido a la llamada del Evangelio para servir a Cristo a través de ayudar a los pobres y a los vulnerables del alrededor del mundo. El tema para recaudar fondos para el Catholic Relief Services (CRS), que será el 9 a 10 de marzo, es Jesús con otro rostro. ¿Cómo ayudarás?
La colección de fondos apoya a seis organizaciones católicas:
• Catholic Relief Servcices (CRS) es la agencia oficial que es Católica y humanitaria que ofrece ayuda y desarrollo internacional de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (USCCB). CRS ofrece ayuda de emergencia y asistencia de largo tiempo para ayudar a personas y capacitar a esas personas.
• Migration and Refugee Services (Servicios de Migración y Refugio) de la USCCB ayuda a las diócesis y las iglesias a restablecer a los refugiados y lucha contra la trata de seres humanos (ayuda a las víctimas del tráfico humano). Esta estimado que más de 6.5 millones de mujeres y niñas son son explotadas sexualmente en la India. En el Este de Europa, las mujeres jóvenes son aconsejadas por amigos o familiares que busquen empleo fuera de su país, pero muchas veces son secuestradas y forzadas a trabajar como prostitutas.
