Josephine M. “Joy” Cygan, 90, a resident of Bettendorf, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at The Fountains, Bettendorf.  Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Joy will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097-18th Street, Bettendorf.  Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the church Monday morning prior to the Mass.

Josephine Mary Dworak was born on August 1, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Walter and Mary Dworak.  She was united in marriage to Joseph Cygan on May 24, 1952 at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Chicago.  They have shared over 60 years of marriage together, and have known each other over 75 years.

She was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf, and a member of their Altar and Rosary Society.

Joy had worked as a department manager at Younkers at Northpark Mall, Davenport.  She enjoyed reading. Joy and Joe enjoyed ballroom dancing, having visited most of the dancehalls around the Chicago area.  They spent a lot of time traveling together, having visited all 48 of the contiguous states.  They also enjoyed the long walks of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago every year.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John Vianney Church or American Diabetes Association.

Joy is survived by her husband Joe, Bettendorf; a grandson, Michael (Amy) Hanson, Washington, D.C.; a great-granddaughter, Anastasia Marie; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
