Mrs. Butler died peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Kahl Home in Davenport.

Mary Catherine Becherer was born February 26, 1922, in Baden, St. Louis County, Missouri, the only child of Louis and Catherine Marie (Quinn) Becherer.  She was united in marriage to Laurence Walter Butler on June 10, 1950 in St. Louis.  He preceded her in death August 19, 2007.  They had celebrated nearly sixty-years of marriage at the time of Larry’s passing.

She was a former member of Holy Family Church. On her seventh birthday, her parents bought Mary a baby grand piano, which commenced a lifelong passion for music.  She began taking piano lessons at that tender age, went on to high school at Nerinx Hall in St. Louis, and later attended Webster Groves College on a scholarship to study piano and voice.  She played professionally for many years, accompanying the Missouri Athletic Club Choral Group.  While raising her family, Mary taught piano and voice lessons out of the family home.
