In a clay pot on a windowsill in the chancery’s kitchen, a green “stump” appeared content to do nothing but snuggle in the black soil. Each time I stopped by the ice machine in the kitchen and stole a glance at the plant, it looked exactly the same as the last time. Until Monday when, to my amazement, two lovely white trumpet-shaped flowers appeared at the top of a sturdy stem that had shot up a half-foot since Friday.
This exquisite gift from God nearly brought tears to my eyes; spring has been so late in arriving and winter, so gloomy. “I reward patience,” God seemed to be saying to me.
