Clinton – Voices for Creative Nonviolence is organizing a walk from Rock Island, Ill. to Des Moines to protest drone warfare. Organizers will speak in Clinton at The Canticle, home of the Sisters of St. Francis, on June 8 at 3 p.m. Speakers include Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence; Brian Terrell, founder of the Strangers and Guests Catholic Worker Farm in Maloy; and Maya Evans, a British peace activist. Davenport – Eagles’ Wings Retreat Center will host the following class. From June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily is an icon workshop with iconographer Leanne Spacek. Davenport — The St. Ambrose Con­ference on Bible and Justice  will be held May 30-June 2 at St. Ambrose Uni­versity. The conference will explore how the ancient texts of the Bible might address modern justice concerns including gender, empire, poverty and the environment. Free on-campus housing is available for the first 100 delegates who register at either the “standard” or “student and retired” rate of $200 or $150, respectively.  Fee for Quad-Cities residents is $75. Davenport – The St. Ambrose University Health Careers Adven­ture Camp June 10-14, for students entering seventh and eighth grades, offers participants the opportunity to learn about a variety of health professions through hands-on learning sessions provided by faculty and practicing clinicians. LITURGY/PRAYER
Davenport —  Deacon Jacob Greiner will be ordained to the priesthood May 25 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral. All are welcome.

Davenport — On June 2, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Pope Francis will be celebrating an hour of eucharistic adoration in St. Peter’s Basilica at 5 p.m. Rome time. The Holy Father has asked that bishops around the world do the same, so Bishop Martin Amos will celebrate Vespers with eucharistic exposition, adoration, and benediction at 5 p.m. June 2 at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Solon – The Friends of St. Bridget’s invite people to a Memorial Day Mass on May 27 at St. Bridget’s of Nolan Settlement at 2136 St. Bridget’s Road. Father Dennis Martin will celebrate Mass at 9 a.m. in the cemetery. Bring lawn chairs. The former church will be open from 8-11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served.
Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Mass begins at 8 a.m., followed by 24 hours of adoration, and closes with benediction at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. For more information or to sign up for an hour, call Tony Humeston at (641) 932-7928.
MEETINGS
Clinton – A Jubilee Faithful discussion will take place May 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at The Canticle. Jubilee Faithful is a grassroots organization of Catholics interested in gathering to pray and listen to one another about their reactions to recent events in the Church. Davenport — The Grief Support Group at St. Anthony Parish welcomes anyone coping with the loss of a loved one to a nine-week program beginning June 4.  The group meets on Tuesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. at the school library at the far end of the church parking lot. RETREATS
Wheatland —  Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat  invites people to the following spring events. From May 31 at 7 p.m. to June 2 at 10 a.m. is “Quilts Without Corners” with Maria Delsing. Learn to make and top finish a circular quilt.  Bring quilting supplies and a sewing machine. (List of needed quilting supplies will be sent upon registration.) Fee: $125. On June 2 at 5 p.m. is a Taize Vigil Service, supper following. Freewill offering. On June 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is “Summer Come to the Quiet,” $20. Wheatland – A centering prayer spring retreat will take place May 25 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat. The day will include centering prayer, Lectio Divina, lunch, a video or DVD with discussion, and time for solitude. A massage will be available for $15 for 15 minutes. Davenport – Our Lady of Victory Parish welcomes donations of used items in good condition for its June rummage sale. The parish cannot accept large exercise equipment, TVs, computers, large kitchen appliances, baby furniture that does not meet new safety requirements and used infant car seats. Items may be dropped off at the John F. Kennedy school gymnasium on June 8-9 from noon to 3 p.m., June 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or June 12 from 8-10 a.m. The sale will be held at the JFK school gym on June 13-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. Sugar Creek – Ss. Mary & Joseph Parish invites people to its 158th annual Corpus Christi celebration on June 1 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 3218 110th St., Preston. Mass will be followed by a procession to four outdoor chapels. The Altar and Rosary Society will serve a meal afterwards in the parish hall.
