Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The theme for the Collection for the Church in Latin America is Live Faith.
In years past, the Diocese of Davenport participated in a collection that benefitted both the Diocesan Volunteer Program and the national Latin America Collection. And while the spirit of the Volunteer Program continues, the nature of involvement with people and parishes has changed.
There are fewer individuals living and working for long periods of time in their respective countries and in ways that had been supported by the Volunteer Program. Now we have parishes in our diocese that have developed partnerships with parishes, schools and clinics in Latin America. The diocese will continue to support and promote such efforts but will do so without a portion being taken from the annual collection.
While encouraging local and parish connections between those in other countries and in the Diocese of Davenport, there is also a need to help those throughout Latin America. Catholics from this region are often characterized by their warm, humble and passionate hearts. They have been blessed by a rich culture as well as natural resources. However, in these times of economic struggle, poverty and violence are still major obstacles in their daily lives. Our support today for the national Latin American collection helps ensure that adequate evangelization, lay leadership programs and strong religious and seminarian formation will be there for near future needs and for generations to come.
This is a wonderful opportunity in this Year of Faith to help our brothers and sisters Live Faith with your generous support of the Collection for the Church in Latin America on May 4-5.
Ayudando a la Iglesia en América Latina
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
El tema para la Colecta para la Iglesia en Latino América es Vivir en Fe.
En últimos años, la Diócesis de Davenport participó en una colecta que dio beneficios al programa de voluntarios de la diócesis y a la colecta nacional de Latino América. Y mientras el espíritu del Programa de Voluntarios continua, la naturaleza de estar involucrado con la gente y la parroquia ha cambiado. Hay menos individuos viviendo y trabajando por tiempos largos en sus países respectivos y en maneras que habían apoyado el programa de voluntarios. Ahora, tenemos parroquias de nuestra Diócesis que se han desarrollado en colaboración con parroquias, escuelas y clínicas en Latino América. La diócesis continuará apoyando y promoviendo estos esfuerzos pero lo hará sin una porción de la colecta anual.
Mientras fomentamos a las conexiones locales y de la parroquia entre esos en otros países y en la Diócesis de Davenport, también hay una necesidad de ayudar a los que están en Latino América. Los católicos de esa región son frecuentemente caracterizados por ser buenos, humildes y tienen corazones llenos de pasión. Ellos han sido bendecidos con una cultura rica y con recursos naturales. Pero, en estos tiempos de lucha económica, pobreza y violencia siguen siendo obstáculos en sus vidas diarias. Nuestro apoyo diario para la colecta nacional de Latino América ayuda asegurar adecuadamente el evangelismo, programa de liderazgo, y formación religiosa y semanaria fuertes esteran allí para las necesidades futuras y para esas generaciones.
Estas es una gran oportunidad en este Año de Fe para ayudar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas para Vivir en Fe con su generoso apoyo para la Colecta de la Iglesia en Latino América en el 4-5 de mayo.
