Persons, places and things: Mary is a role model for all

Inside a tiny chapel atop Calvary Mound in St. Donatus, Iowa, a replica of the Pieta evoked profound feelings of love and sorrow inside of me. There I stood, the mother of two young boys, gazing upon the image of the Mother of God cradling the lifeless body of her son. At that moment, I felt total kinship with Mary … a mother just like me, who loved her child to the core of her being. For the first time, I embraced Mary’s full humanity.
These memories come to mind during May, the month we honor Mary. The previous month my classmates and I had studied Mariology in our Master of Pastoral Theology program with Professor Corinne Winter as our instructor.
