Scripture readings, reflection

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER – MAY 5
The believing community listens with great intensity to Sunday’s Gospel (John 14:23-29). The Risen Jesus makes a commitment:
“Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
As the community shapes its mission around Jesus’ words and deeds, it becomes transparent that the Risen One and the Holy One now live within the community.
The divine presence will always guide the community’s mission.  The Risen One promises:
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.”
The great sign that the community is listening to the Holy Spirit is how peaceful and fearless the community is as it pursues Jesus’ mission. Jesus guarantees the mission with a gift:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”
Where does the Risen One live?  The community gently and quietly says: “Look at the way we live our mission.”
