EDUCATIONAL
Clinton — A discussion of what today’s Church is asking of the Vatican II generation will begin at Prince of Peace Church on May 9 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the family room. This conversation will focus on Scriptural references for contemporary issues while exploring the history and evolution of Church teachings.
Davenport – Eagles’ Wings Retreat Center will host the following classes. On Wednes­days from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 15 to June 19 is a class in creating a sacred art journal. Students will meditate and reflect on the Word of God; Mary, mother of mercy; and the saints. Cost is $65, including supplies. Bring a Bible. From June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily is an icon workshop with iconographer Leanne Spacek. Davenport — The St. Ambrose Bible and Justice Conference will be held May 30-June 2 at St. Ambrose Uni­versity. The conference is intended to foster discussion about the relevance of the Bible to modern social issues. Standard rate is $200, all meals are included; student and retired rate: $150; Quad-Cities residents: $75. Davenport – The St. Ambrose University Health Careers Adven­ture Camp June 10-14, for students entering seventh and eighth grades, offers participants the opportunity to learn about a variety of health professions through hands-on learning sessions provided by faculty and practicing clinicians. Cost is $200 until May 15 and $225 after May 15. A $35 scholarship rate is available to students in the free or reduced lunch program. LITURGY/PRAYER
Cedar Rapids — On May 10, a gathering commemorating the fifth anniversary of the immigration raid in Postville will begin at noon at the park across from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, 111 Seventh Ave. SE.  A walk for justice will follow at 12:30 p.m. to Immaculate Concep­tion Church. MEETINGS
Davenport — The Grief Support Group at St. Anthony Parish welcomes anyone coping with the loss of a loved one to a nine-week program beginning June 4.  The group meets on Tuesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. at the school library at the far end of the church parking lot. Iowa City — The Diocese of Davenport’s Justice and Peace Advocacy Team will meet May 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the lower level of St. Patrick Church. All are welcome. For more information, call the diocesan social action office at (563) 324-1911.
RETREATS
Wheatland —  Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat  invites people to the following spring events. On May 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is “Knit One, Pray Too” with Karen Brooke, Ann Green and Anne Johnson Bring yarn.   Fee: $20, lunch included. On May 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is “Praying with Images” with Sister Kathleen Storms, SSND. Bring a camera and capture the Creator’s artistry in photos. Fee: $20, lunch included. From May 31 at 7 p.m. to June 2 at 10 a.m. is “Quilts Without Corners” with Maria Delsing. Learn to make and top finish a circular quilt.  Bring quilting supplies and a sewing machine. Wheatland – A centering prayer spring retreat will take place May 25 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat. The day will include centering prayer, Lectio Divina, lunch, a video or DVD with discussion, and time for solitude. A massage will be available for $15 for 15 minutes. SOCIALS
Bettendorf — St. John Vianney Parish will hold its annual garage sale May 17-18 in the parish activity center. Proceeds will support ongoing missionary work with St. John Vianney’s sister parish in Jean Denis, Haiti.
Davenport – Our Lady of Victory Parish welcomes donations of used items in good condition for its June rummage sale. The parish cannot accept large exercise equipment, TVs, computers, large kitchen appliances, baby furniture that does not meet new safety requirements and used infant car seats. Items may be dropped off at the John F. Kennedy school gymnasium on June 8-9 from noon to 3 p.m., June 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or June 12 from 8-10 a.m. The sale will be held at the JFK school gym on June 13-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. Washington – St. James Parish invites people to celebrate the Year of Faith with a Faith Rally featuring food and fellowship May 11. There will be games, pulled pork sandwiches and a DJ playing Christian music from 6:30-9 p.m. on the parish campus. “The Greatest Miracle” movie will be shown from 9-10 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.
