Iowa City — The Diocese of Davenport invites pastoral leaders to the 2013 August Gathering, “Building Bridges,” at St. Patrick Church Aug. 16. The event will explore how to engage people in living the faith, coach parents and form the family. Guest speaker will be Leisa Anslinger. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m., and the first session begins at 10 a.m. Closing is at 2:45 p.m. Cost is $25 (includes lunch). Regis­tration deadline is Aug. 9. Wheatland —  Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat invites people to the following events. On Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. is a Taize Vigil Service. Taize is an ecumenical movement, drawing Chris­tians of all denominations together in prayer. Supper follows. Free will offering. On Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon is a mini-retreat with Mass at 10 a.m. and a variety of programs. Come early, stay late, and enjoy lunch from the Prairie garden. Fee: $8. On Aug. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is Knit One, Pray Too! Bring yarn. Fee: $20, includes lunch. Bettendorf – Knights of Columbus St. Bernadette Council 15430 of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will host a rib and sweet corn dinner at the parish activity center on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for a kids’ meal. Bettendorf – The Women’s Choice Center of the Quad-Cities is inviting families to a Summer Family Cele­bration and Movie Night on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Bill Bowe Bandshell at Veterans Memorial Park.  People will watch the 2013 animated comedy “Escape from Planet Earth.” Festivities will begin at 8 p.m., with the movie starting at 9 p.m. A bounce house and playground will be available for children. Popcorn, lemonade and ice water will be served.
Brighton – The Polishville annual ba­zaar will take place at the Polishville Com­munity Center Aug. 4. Hot sandwiches and a salad bar will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. A raffle is at 1:30 p.m. with three quilts and cash prizes.
Burlington – Rep­resentatives of KCDM – Know Christ’s Divine Mercy 98.3 FM will kick off a fundraising campaign for the Catholic radio station at Burlington and West Burlington parishes the weekend of Aug. 10-11. The station aims to raise $51,000 to move its studio from the aging, former St. Patrick School building to Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School in Burlington and update technology and equipment. Clinton – The annual Mercy Hospice Service of Remembrance is Saturday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Bickelhaupt Arboretum. The service remembers those who have died during the year. There will be a brief spiritual dedication followed by the release of several monarch butterflies. The service is open to the public. For more information, call (563) 244-5496. Davenport – Quad Cities Interfaith will hold a trivia night fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus Hall (first floor), 1111 W. 35th St. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the event starts at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person or $80 for a table of eight. There will be a 50/50 raffle and basket raffle. Davenport – The St. Alphonsus Parish Festival at Birchwood and Boies avenues will be Saturday, Aug. 24, from 5-9 p.m. A pork loin dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. will cost $7. There will be a concession stand, games for children and adults, inflatables, a raffle, country store and entertainment.
Davenport – A raffle to support youth scholarships and education programs, continued education, mission trips and youth ministry is under way at St. Anthony Parish. The drawing will be Aug. 25 with the grand prize being a 2013 SRT Viper coupe or $100,000 cash. Tickets are $125 each or three for $300. Davenport – The 2013 Fr. Ken Martin Golf Outing & Dinner will be held Aug. 28 at Emeis Golf Course at 12:30 p.m., followed by dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Pro­ceeds go to the Assum­ption Foundation for K-12 Catholic Schools to provide an emergency scholarship fund for families in crisis situations. Davenport — St. Ambrose University invites high school and transfer students and their families to Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 5-9. Campus tours and free informational sessions about the admissions process and financial aid will be held twice daily, beginning at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Current students, faculty and staff will share insights about academic programs and campus life. Goose Lake — Assumption & St. Patrick Parish in Charlotte is hosting a beef and pork dinner on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 3-7 p.m. The event will be held at the Millennium Ballroom in Goose Lake. Carry-outs are available. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and younger.  There will also be a gift basket silent auction, children’s games, bingo and a country store.
Knoxville – St. Anthony Parish will hold a spaghetti dinner on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 4-6:30 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.
