LITURGY/PRAYER
Clinton County – Healing Masses with anointing of the sick will be celebrated Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. at Assumption & St. Patrick in Charlotte, and 11 a.m. at Immaculate Con­ception in Petersville.
Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Friday,   Aug. 16,   at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Confessions start at 6 p.m, praise Music at 6:30 p.m and  Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.
MEETINGS
Davenport – On Aug. 17 at 9:30 a.m., the Biblical Counseling Group meets at Eagles’ Wings to continue the section on marriage counseling. If you are not registered and would like to attend a session, call (563) 324-7263.
RETREATS
Davenport – St. Alphonsus Parish invites people to a day of retreat with Father Bob Miller on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with services at 3 p.m.  The retreat is titled: “Journeying with Jesus through Human Desires and Holy Longings” and will take place in the church and St. Clements Hall. Wheatland – The annual “Spirit of the Prairie” retreat is Aug. 25 from 3–6 p.m.  at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, 2664 145th Ave. The event includes local food, wine, beers and entertainment, tours and a silent auction of gift baskets. Cost is $40 per person. Proceeds benefit The Prairie Retreat scholarship fund. Parking and shuttle service will be available at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport. Wheatland —  Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat invites people to the following events. On Aug. 19 or 20 (select one date) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. is “A God of Renewal and Passion” with Father Bob Miller, pastor of St. Dorothy Church, Chicago, and Mark Nimo. Participants  will use Scripture and history to study the Lord’s spiritual renewal past, present and future. Fee: $30. On Aug. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. is “Come to the Quiet.” Fee: $20. Bettendorf – Knights of Columbus St. Bernadette Council 15430 of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will host a rib and sweet corn dinner at the parish activity center on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for a kids’ meal. Carry-outs are available. Proceeds will help parish youths attend the National Catholic Youth Con­ference. For ticket information, call Ed at (563) 320-1562.
Bettendorf — Many Hands for Haiti is sponsoring a Pizza Ranch tip night on Monday, Aug. 19, 5-9 p.m. at Pizza Ranch at 880 Lincoln Road. Parishioners from Our Lady of Victory and Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport did mission work in Haiti last fall and want to help the upcoming Thrive for 5 program in Pignon, Haiti. MH4H provides over 400,000 meals annually, and the new program will provide meals, immunization and nutrition education. The Pizza Ranch will donate 10 percent of sales and tips that night to MH4H.
Davenport – The Davenport Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Tootsie Roll drive Aug. 15-18 to benefit people with intellectual disabilities. Knights, their families and other volunteers will give away Tootsie Rolls while seeking donations. The goal for Council 532 is $40,000. Ninety percent of proceeds go to local organizations.
Davenport – People are invited to help initiate the fire pit at Eagles’ Wings at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 with a cook-out and pot blessing. Bring your own meat to put on the grill or a hot dog and fork and a dish to pass. Eagles’ Wings will provide table service. Plan to roast marshmallows and sing. Bring a lawn chair and roasting fork.
Davenport – Quad Cities Interfaith will hold a trivia night fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus Hall (first floor), 1111 W. 35th St. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the event starts at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person or $80 for a table of eight. There will be a 50/50 raffle and basket raffle. Bring your own food; all beverages must be purchased at event. To reserve a table, call (563) 322-4910.
Davenport – The St. Alphonsus Parish Festival at Birchwood and Boies avenues will be Saturday, Aug. 24, from 5-9 p.m. A pork loin dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. will cost $7. There will be a concession stand, games for children and adults, inflatables, a raffle, country store and entertainment.
Davenport – A raffle to support youth scholarships and education programs, continued education, mission trips and youth ministry is under way at St. Anthony Parish. The drawing will be Aug. 25 with the grand prize being a 2013 SRT Viper coupe or $100,000 cash. Tickets are $125 each or three for $300. For an order form, visit www.stanthonysdavenportiowa.org. Davenport – The 2013 Fr. Ken Martin Golf Outing & Dinner will be held Aug. 28 at Emeis Golf Course at 12:30 p.m., followed by dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Pro­ceeds go to the Assum­ption Foundation for K-12 Catholic Schools to provide an emergency scholarship fund for families in crisis situations. Georgetown – St. Patrick Parish will celebrate the annual God’s Portion Day on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. On Saturday is the fourth annual Georgetown Open Golf Tourney, 8:45 a.m. check-in at Albia Country Club; 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. Call (641) 777-9687 to pre-register by Aug. 26. Sunday schedule: 10 a.m. Mass in the historic church; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., country homegrown dinner with roast beef/chicken; 11:30 a.m., country store, kids games; noon to 4 p.m., silent auction under the tent; 1:30 p.m., live auction on south lawn; 4 p.m., lawn social (sandwiches and beverages served), auction continues; souvenirs, raffle, Irish and religious items available.
Petersville – Immaculate Conception Parish invites people to a beef and pork dinner on Sunday, Aug. 25, with serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Carry-outs will be available. The event includes a country store and raffle.
Rock Island, Ill. – The St. Patrick Society, Quad Cities U.S.A. will hold its 29th annual Quad Cities Irish Fest Aug. 17 from 1-8 p.m. on 17th Street between Second and Third avenues. Admission is $6 (12 and under free). Music will be provided by The Beggarmen and The Don’t Be Brothers, with Irish dancers at 2 p.m. Corned beef and cabbage, plus American fare, will be served throughout the day. A silent auction and 50/50 drawing will be held. A $1,000 raffle will take place at 7:45 p.m. Proceeds support the Grand Parade in March.
Riverside – St. Mary Parish invites people to its annual Labor Day celebration Sept. 2. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A smoked Iowa chop dinner will cost $10 in advance or $11 at the door; a fried chicken dinner will cost $9 in advance or $10 at the door. A hot dog kids’ meal will cost $5 in advance or $6 at the door. Children younger than 5 get a free kids’ meal. To order tickets in advance, call (319) 648-4149. Carryouts will be available. A raffle will offer a grand prize of $1,500. Festivities include crafts, a farmers’ market, bingo, deer shoot, kids’ games, obstacle course and a 1 p.m. tractor pull (sign up at 12:30 p.m.) An auction will offer quilts, stained glass, pews for Christmas Eve Mass and more.
