DUBUQUE – Sister Mary James Orth, BVM, 95, died June 8 at Marian Hall.
She was born Dec. 22, 1917. She entered the BVM congregation from St. Patrick Parish, Burlington, Sept. 8, 1936. She professed first vows March 19, 1939, and final vows Aug. 15, 1944.
In the Diocese of Davenport, Sr. Orth taught at Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport, St. Patrick Elementary School in Iowa City and St. Mary High School in Clinton. She was an elementary and secondary school educator and administrator in Cascade, Council Bluffs, and Des Moines, Iowa; Memphis, Tenn.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Mundelein, Ill. She was school secretary in Los Angeles and teacher aide/tutor in Granada Hills, Calif.
Burial is in the Mount Carmel cemetery, Dubuque.
