Davenport – St. Paul the Apostle Parish invites people to an adult study, “Pillar I: The Creed,” beginning Jan. 13 in Denning Hall. The 12-part study is designed to take participants through the Catechism and show how their personal journey fits into the story of salvation Catholics pray each Sunday in the Creed. Iowa City — A kickoff breakfast for the CRS Rice Bowl will be Jan. 25 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. Participants will receive materials and ideas for this Catholic Relief Services program, which encourages participants to fast, pray and give during Lent. The Diocese of Davenport asks one or two people from each parish or school to serve as Rice Bowl coordinators. Send names of coordinators to the diocesan social action office by Dec. 19. LITURGY/PRAYER
Clinton – The Sisters of St. Francis invite people to pray Advent vespers every Sunday during Advent at 6 p.m. in The Canticle chapel. Reflections will focus on the “O Antiphons of Advent.” Upcoming dates are Dec. 15 and 22.
Coralville – St. Thomas More Parish will host a Blue Christmas service for people suffering from a loss on Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. The service includes Scripture reflections, prayers and solemn songs of hope and comfort. A soup supper follows.
Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Dec. 20 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Confessions start at 6 p.m, praise Music at 6:30 p.m and Mass at 7:15 p.m.
Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Davenport – Eagles’ Wings will host “Creating From the Heart of Christmas” on Dec. 13 from 6–9 p.m. Participants will be open to experience the Holy Spirit through artistic expression. Bring a canvas or paper (11×16 or larger) and water color or acrylic paints. Eagles’ Wings has pastels, colored pencils and crayons. Wine, cheese and worship music will be provided. Davenport – All Saints Catholic School will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Dec. 14 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Cost is $8 for adults or $6 for students and senior citizens. Proceeds support the school gala Feb. 22.
Iowa City – St. Wenceslaus Parish’s holiday bazaar will take place the weekend of Dec. 14-15. On Saturday from 8-11 a.m., there will be a bake sale, trash to treasure booths, crafts and silent auction items. The bazaar also will be open after Saturday 5 p.m. Mass and after the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses on Sunday.
