Entries are being accepted for the third annual Art of Faith sacred art show “Magnify God’s Word.”
Jill Rodts, coordinator of Art of Faith Sacred Art Show and Sale, said Catholic artists are invited to submit their artwork. The show’s mission is to “capture the beauty of the rich deposit of faith in sacred Scriptures and in sacred tradition. Artists are called to embrace Gospel values and proclaim them visually to the world promoting the culture of life.”
Artists are called to evangelize the person and message of Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life while inspiring devotion to the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints. By using their talent to inspire hope in the world, they give glory to God, Rodts said.
Artwork accepted will include visual expressions of the incarnate word, Jesus, drawing on divine mercy (spiritual or corporal works of mercy), or any of the seven sacraments. Images portraying the beauty and holiness of the birth, public ministry, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as any aspects of his life in the tradition of the Roman Catholic faith, are guidelines for the show. The committee also encourages original illustrations of the beauty of the Blessed Mother, scenes of the rosary, saints or biblical scenes and characters.
Art divisions are for ages 13-18 and those older than 18.
Artists should provide three to five photos of their artwork, a statement about how their work expresses faith and magnifies God’s word, and send the materials either by email to jmr415@dishmail.net or by U.S. Postal Service to Art of Faith, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island, IL, 61201.
The art show and sale will be held Feb. 22 from 2-7 p.m. and Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Farrell Hall, St. Pius X Parish, 2901 24th St., Rock Island, Ill. A free will donation will be accepted. Proceeds support the Art of Faith mission for future programs.
