To the Editor:
The time is right for Congress to pass a Life at Conception Act. We all need to encourage our senators and representatives to protect our unborn children by passing a human life amendment this congressional year.
Forty-one years have passed since the Supreme Court handed down the Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion, based on the unanswered question in 1973 of when life begins. The statement made by that court at that time was … “If this suggestion of personhood is established, the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the 14th Amendment.” This now has been well established.
Time and technology have proven that human life does begin at conception. Science tells us that a fertilized egg will grow and develop and is not a tumor or a turnip but a human fetus (baby person). The 14th Amendment is clear, “… nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law, nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law.” Also the 14th Amendment declares that “Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.”
