EDUCATION
Davenport — St. Ambrose University Catich Gallery will showcase the work of Brian Borchardt and Erick Wolfmeyer through Oct. 24. The show will feature handmade books and quilts. An artist lecture will take place Sept. 18 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. in Galvin Hall room 141, followed by a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery. Both events are free and open to the public. LITURGY/PRAYER
Davenport — Eagles’ Wings will host SWAP (Soaking with a Purpose) prayer meeting Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The chapel will be open at 6:30 p.m. for quiet prayer.
Iowa City — St. Mary Parish is offering a study of Father Jacque Philippe’s book “Time for God” — a book on prayer — from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4 in preparation for his talks during early Lent 2015. The first hour each week will be a discussion of the book in the church hall, and the last 30 minutes will be an opportunity for personal prayer in St. Mary Church.
Rock Island, Ill. — The annual Women’s Interfaith Conversation (formerly called the Jewish, Christian, Muslim Women’s Dia­logue) will take place Sept. 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Burlington – The CAFÉ (Catholic Adult Fellowship Evening) will be open in the Notre Dame cafeteria from 6:45-8 p.m. Sept. 24 Kent Ferris, diocesan director of social action, will discuss Project Rachel.
Coralville — Young adults from across the diocese are invited to CYAN (Catholic Young Adult Network) for a BBQ, games and fellowship. The event is Oct. 4 from 1-5 p.m. at St. Thomas More Parish. The day will end with Mass at 5:15 p.m.
Davenport — St. Alphonsus Parish is hosting a beer and food pairing event in the former school cafeteria Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Altar and Rosary in conjunction with the Holy Name Society. Davenport — Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc. is hosting its third annual Night at the Shelter SleepOut at Modern Woodman Park Oct. 3-4. Registration is $25, and activities include a build your own shelter contest, music, educational opportunities and games. The event starts at 4 p.m. Oct. 3 and wraps up at 8 a.m. Oct. 4. East Pleasant Plain — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish is hosting its annual bazaar Sept. 21. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., and a chicken breast and pork loin buffet lunch will follow from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Auction at 1 p.m; country store, crafts and bake goods, kids’ games, carriage rides, raffle and silent auction will also be offered.
Farmington — St. Boniface Parish’s fall dinner will take place Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harmony High School (6 miles north of Farmington on J-40). Roast pork, lamb and turkey will be served. Adults pay $8, children under 10 years old pay $4. Silent auction, theme baskets, cake walk, raffle, door prizes, bazaar, bingo and a bake sale will take place.
Houghton — St. John Parish is hosting its annual harvest festival Sept. 28 at Knights of Columbus Hall. A roast beef dinner will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. Carry outs, as well as a bake sale and crafts will be available. An auction will take place at 11:30 a.m. Additionally, there will be a raffle with top prize being a John Deere Gator or $8,000. Oskaloosa — St. Mary Parish is hosting a Catholic Cafe talk featuring Bishop Martin Amos on Sept. 28 at 9:15 a.m. Bishop Amos will speak on his hobbies and how they tie in with his faith and give him a break from constant work. Coffee, juice and donuts will be served.
Oxford Junction — Sacred Heart Parish is hosting its Fall Festival and Polka Mass Sept. 21. Mass at 10:30 a.m., chicken dinner at the Legionnaire Ballroom at the Wapsi Park will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Kolache sale, silent auction, raffle and more.
Solon — St. Mary Parish is hosting its Harvest Festival Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pork and chicken dinners to be served. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 6-12. Children and family activities, a country store and silent auction will be offered. $5 raffle tickets for a chance to win a Stadium Suite for the Hawkeye’s Nov. 1 football game. Victor — St. Bridget Parish is hosting a chicken and ham supper Sept. 21 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Adults pay $10, children pay $5. The event will include a country store with homemade goods, a silent auction and a quilt raffle.
