Messenger inspires the faithful

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Catholic Messenger helps people of faith to make sense of and respond to news about our Church and the world. That is why I chose to have our diocesan newspaper delivered to every household in the Diocese of Davenport on Dec. 25, Jan. 8 and Jan. 15.

Lindsay Steele
Bishop Martin Amos encourages everyone to read The Catholic Messenger, the weekly newspaper of the Diocese of Davenport, of which he is publisher. The cost of $29 for a year’s subscription in the diocese (for the print, E-edition or both) is a worthy investment, the bishop says. The paper provides local, national and world news.

My hope is that all households, inspired by the insightful articles, columns and editorials, will choose to subscribe to The Catholic Messenger. Both print and E-edition are available to accommodate your reading preferences.

Each week, The Catholic Messenger provides coverage of diocesan, state, national and international news about the Church. While the newspaper reflects the life of the Church throughout the world, its emphasis is on diocesan news, parishes, parishioners and their opinions.

The Messenger offers news from parishes, schools and other entities, creating opportunities for people to learn about what’s going on outside of their parishes. It helps us stay informed about issues affecting our Church and the world around us, providing a Catholic perspective along with thoughtful commentary, editorials and letters to the editor. Our diocesan newspaper serves as a source of faith formation, helping to enhance appreciation for the Mass and to inspire the call to witness to the Catholic faith in our daily lives.

Important topics The Catholic Messenger will cover this year include the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia and the World Synod of Bishops on the Family, priest assignments, parish collaboration, strategic planning in the Catholic schools and faith formation. I believe you will find something of value in every issue.

The Catholic Messenger remains a vital part of the ministry of our diocese, yet it requires your support today more than ever before. The cost of $29 for a year’s subscription in the diocese — for the print, E-edition or both — is truly a worthy investment. Because of continued good stewardship of resources, the price for this year’s subscription remains the same. Please subscribe and read it faithfully.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Rev. Martin Amos
Bishop of Davenport

Mons. Martin Amos
Obispo de Davenport
