Pro-life Roe v. Wade activities planned in diocese

To mark the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, pro-life groups have scheduled several events. Here is a listing compiled by The Catholic Messenger:

Albia — St. Mary Parish put up the Sanctity of Human Life Crib on the Feast Day of the Solemnity of Mary on Jan 1. It will remain up for the month of January. The parish encourages parishioners and faith formation students to donate an item for the crib which will be donated to the local Nest Program for outreach to young mothers and mothers in need. The parish encourages people to participate in the Midwest March for Life on Jan. 17. St. Mary’s also will host a Rosary for Life at noon on Jan. 22, the day of prayer for the unborn.

Bettendorf — Women’s Choice Center will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and host a vigil program at 7 p.m. at the pro-life center.

Davenport — Quad City Right to Life will hold an open house and celebrate 14 years of its Life’s Little Treasures Resale Shop from 1-5 p.m. Jan. 25. The open house is at 2906 Brady St. There will be a drawing every hour, items for sale and refreshments. The pro-life educational area will have a 3-D ultrasound video playing. Goodie bags will be distributed.

Des Moines — Midwest March for Life will be held Jan. 17. Mass begins at 9 a.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Participants in the march should gather at the west steps of the Iowa State Capitol at 11 a.m. The march ends at the Iowa Supreme Court. A luncheon follows at the Iowa Events Center. Reservations may be made at http://www.iowartl.org/midwest-march-for-life/. High school and college pro-life advocates are invited to a youth rally at the Iowa Events Center from 2:30-4:30 p.m. For “non-youths,” breakout sessions on pro-life topics will be offered at the center. Fort Madison — The annual North Lee County Right to Life March for Life will be held Jan. 24. The march begins at 10:30 a.m. at Avenue F and 10th Street and proceeds through downtown, back to McAleer Hall. Fellowship and refreshments will follow.

Iowa City — Johnson County Right to Life is sponsoring bulletin inserts for “9 Days for Life” at parishes in Coralville, Iowa City and Solon. People are encouraged to attend the Midwest March for Life.
