ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — “Transformed By Grace” is the theme for this year’s Sacred Art show and sale at St. Pius X Parish. Artists from the Diocese of Davenport are encouraged to submit their entries to the fourth annual show.
Jill Rodts, the event’s coordinator, said the Art of Faith Mission is to capture the beauty “of the rich deposit of faith in sacred Scriptures and in sacred Tradition. We are called to embrace Gospel values and proclaim them visually to the world promoting the culture of life.”
This event will be held on Feb. 28 from 2-7 p.m. and March 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Farrell Hall, located behind Jordan Catholic School on parish grounds.
Art of Faith continues as an arts and new evangelization ministry at St. Pius X, Rodts says. Throughout the year handmade Christmas and Easter greeting cards are created and given to parishioners who are homebound or in nursing homes.
Guidelines for the art show include images portraying the beauty and holiness of the incarnate birth, public ministry, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic tradition. Images of the Holy Trinity, virtues, beatitudes, divine mercy and any of the seven sacraments are welcome. Other entries may include art of the Blessed Mother, mysteries of the rosary, saints, biblical scenes and biblical characters.
One category is for adults and one for youths ages 13-18. Artists should send three to five photos of their artwork with a statement about how it is transformed by grace through faith in God’s love.
Entries can be emailed to jmr415@dishmail.net or mail to St. Pius Parish, c/o Art of Faith, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island, IL 61201. Deadline is Feb. 15.
Artists are required to be present at the two-day show. No entry fee is required upon acceptance. Twenty percent of the sales are donated to the Art of Faith ministry.
For two years, proceeds from the Art of Faith show have been provided to the Angel Tree Christmas program providing construction paper packages for children in need in the local area.
Art of Faith has also donated supplies to Jordan Catholic School, including a Divine Mercy chaplet for children DVD and the book, “The King in the Golden City’” for the second-grade first Communion classes. The parish’s lending library has also been offered a CD recording of “The King in the Golden City.” Also, four free workshops for children and adults were held in 2014 through Art of Faith.
