Serve the poor and vulnerable

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

At this time of year we have the opportunity to reflect on how we have responded to the Gospel call to serve Jesus through the poor and vulnerable around the world. The theme for the Catholic Relief Services collection which is held on March 7-8 is to help Jesus in Disguise.
The collection supports six Catholic organizations:

• Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international Catholic humanitarian overseas relief and development agency of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). CRS provides emergency relief and long-term assistance to help people become more self-sufficient.
• Migration and Refugee Services of the USCCB helps dioceses and churches to resettle refugees and actively helps victims of human trafficking.
• The Holy Father’s Relief Fund assists victims of natural disasters and other emergencies around the world.
• The Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development of the USCCB advocates for poor and vulnerable people throughout the world and works for international justice and world peace.
• The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) is a dedicated network of legal immigration programs that promote the dignity and protect the rights of immigrants. It provides technical assistance and training to dioceses with immigration programs like ours in the Diocese of Davenport which offer counseling to immigrants who qualify for family reunification or legalization but need assistance in completing their federal applications.
• The Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church of the USCCB supports a network of national pastoral centers and diocesan personnel who minister to various ethnic groups and migrant communities.

Servir al pobre y al vulnerable

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

En este tiempo del año, tenemos la oportunidad de reflexionar del cómo hemos respondido al llamado del Evangelio, a servir a Jesús a través del pobre y vulnerable en el mundo. El tema para la colecta del Servicio de Ayuda Católica es ayudar a Jesús disfrazado, colecta que será el 7 y 8 de marzo.
La colecta apoya a seis organizaciones católicas:

• Catholic Relief Services (Servicio de Ayuda Católica) es la agencia de la Conferencia de los Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos, que ayuda y desarrolla actividades humanitarias. CRS proporciona ayuda urgente y asistencia a largo plazo a las personas, para que sean autosuficientes.
• Migration and Refugee Services (Servicios de Migración y Refugiados de los Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos) ayuda a las diócesis y a las parroquias a ubicar a los refugiados y, también, ayuda activamente a las víctimas de trata de personas.
• The Holy Father’s Relief Fund (La fundación de ayuda del Santo Padre) que asiste a las víctimas de los desastres naturales y de otras emergencias alrededor del mundo.
• The Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development of the USCCB (El Departamento de Justicia, Paz y Desarrollo Humano de la Conferencia Católica de los Obispos de los Estados Unidos) defiende a las personas pobres y vulnerables de todo el mundo y trabaja para la justicia internacional y la paz mundial.
• The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) es una red dedicada a programas de inmigración, que promueve la dignidad y protege los derechos de los inmigrantes. Provee asistencia técnica y entrenamiento a las diócesis con programas de migración como a nuestra Diócesis de Davenport, la cual ofrece consejería a los inmigrantes, que califiquen para una unificación familiar o para legalizar su estatus migratorio, pero que necesita asistencia para llenar sus aplicaciones.
• The Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church of the USCCB (Secretariado para la Diversidad Cultural en la Iglesia) apoya una red nacional de centros pastorales y personal diocesano, quienes sirven a varios grupos étnicos y comunidades migratorias.
