Former Assumption teacher dies

DUBUQUE — Sister Jean Monica Lanahan, BVM, died June 3 at Marian Hall. She was 95.

Sr. Lanahan was born in Chicago in 1919 to Matthew and Sara (McCaughey) Lanahan. She entered the BVM congregation in 1946 and professed first vows in 1949.

In the Diocese of Davenport, Sr. Lanahan taught at Assumption High School in Davenport. She taught secondary school in Chicago and in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was an administrator, college teacher and volunteer curator in Dubuque.

She was interred at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dubuque. Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Support Fund in Dubuque.
