Sr. Holland, OSF, dies

Sister Joan Holland, OSF, passed away June 7 at the Alverno in Clinton. She was 81.

Sr. Holland was born Jeanne Ann on Nov. 14, 1933, in Vail, Iowa, to John and Blanche Lorenzen Holland. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Clare Convent in Clinton in 1952 and received the name Sister Joan of Arc at her reception. She was later known simply as Sr. Joan. She professed perpetual vows in 1958.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Ambrose College in Davenport. She taught at schools in Missouri; Hawarden, Iowa; and California. She also served as spiritual campus minister at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Riverside, California.

Sr. Holland retired to the Canticle in Clinton in 2011 and later moved to the Alverno.

She was interred in St. Irenaeus Cavalry Cemetery.
