Grinnell — St. Mary Parish is hosting its next event in a series of programs about Laudato Si and climate change Sept 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the basement hall. This event, open to all but created especially with farmers and those in agriculture in mind, is entitled, “Iowa Agricul-ture, Climate Change and Caring.” The presenter is Jerry Hatfield, laboratory director and supervisory plant physiologist at the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment at Iowa State University.
Bettendorf — St. John Vianney Parish is offering a GriefShare Ministry Sundays from 2-4 p.m. in the Health Ministry area in the lower level of the church. The group will meet each Sunday except Sept. 6 and 27. Materials are provided; no fee is charged. Call (563) 332-7910, x122 to register.
Davenport — St. Paul the Apostle Parish is hosting a grief ministry for those enduring any type of hurt. The group meets on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in McEleney Hall. Sessions begin Sept. 10 and run for 10 weeks. The first four weeks are open, after that the group will become closed to new people until a new 10 week session begins. Davenport — St. Paul the Apostle Parish is hosting a 24 part study on the Bible Timeline starting Sept. 14. Participants can attend Mondays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m. Study set is $40; make payment at the first class. Iowa City — Steve Markel, founder of Families of Character, will be speaking at St. Patrick Church in Iowa City on Oct 8. at 7 p.m. This is a change from the previously scheduled date. More details about this event will be published in a future issue of The Catholic Messenger.
Keokuk — All Saints Parish will pray the rosary Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, those interested in or wanting to learn more about the possibility of All Saints Parish hosting a 25-session Great Adventure Bible Study based on Bible scholar Jeff Cavins’ model can attend an informational meeting at St. Vincent School Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Wheatland — Cook up a storm with Sister Kathleen Storms, SSND, at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Sept. 22 from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Learn to prepare earth friendly and healthy foods from scratch. Davenport — The Hispanic community at St. Mary Parish is hosting a parish festival Sept. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be authentic, homemade Mexican food and drinks. All proceeds go to benefit the parish.
Davenport — Father Bill Meyer, a retired priest of the Davenport Diocese, turns 90 on Sept. 4. Celebrate at Our Lady of Victory Parish after the 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses Sept. 6. No gifts, please.
East Pleasant Plain — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish is hosting its annual Bazaar Sept 20. Mass begins at 9:30 a.m., with a chicken and pork loin buffet dinner to follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for children 3 to 12 years old. Auction begins at 1 p.m. Festivities include kids’ games, a caramel apple booth, silent auction, carriage rides, bingo and a raffle.
Iowa City — Regina Catholic Education Center is hosting its annual Fall Fun Festival Sept. 5-6. A 10k race, garage sale, basketball tournament, softball tournament and a concert featuring Funk Daddies and dueling pianists are among the festivities. Oxford Junction — Sacred Heart Parish is hosting a fall festival Sept 20. A polka Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. A deep-fried chicken dinner with kolaches, sides and dessert will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Legionnaire Ballroom at Wapsi Park. Cost is $11 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 10. Children ages 4 and under eat free. The event will also include a raffle, bake sale, silent auction, games and more.
Richland — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Altar and Rosary is hosting an open house celebrating Shirley Van Dee’s 80th birthday Sept. 6 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Mother Cabrini Parish Center. Shirley is the Parish Life Coordinator of the parish.
Riverside — St. Mary Parish is hosting its annual Labor Day Dinner Sept 7. Food will be served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pork chop dinner is $12, fried chicken dinner $11, and hot dog kids’ meal is $5. Darien, Illinois — A one-day pilgrimage to the St. Therese Shrine in Darien, Illinois will depart from Our Lady of Victory Parish in Davenport Oct. 10 at 7 a.m. and return by 7 p.m. The National Shrine of Saint Therese has the largest collection of Little Flower relics and memorabilia outside of Lisieux, France. The day includes Mass at the St. Therese Chapel, a Q&A with staff, a guided tour, meal and more. Bettendorf — The Women’s Choice Center is seeking volunteers to help familes and babies in need.
