Former educator Sr. Mullin dies

Sister Mary Carolyn Mullin, CHM, 95, died Sept. 26, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston.
Ellen Kathryn Mullin was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Roger and Catherine Flanagan Mullin. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1942, professing vows in 1945. Degrees include a BA from Marycrest College in Davenport, an MA from University of Iowa in business education, and a MA in religious education from Spokane, Washington.

Sr. Mullin taught in Melrose Public School in Melrose and St. Alphonsus in Davenport. She taught business courses at Walsh High School in Ottumwa, Catholic Central in Great Falls, Montana, and Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa. She served as director of religious education in the Des Moines, Iowa, and Great Falls, Montana, dioceses and also in the parishes of Ss. Peter and Paul in Great Falls, and at Our Lady of Good Help in Hoquiam, St. Philomena in Des Moines and St. Mary in Seattle – all three in Washington state.

Within her community she served as novitiate director and as development director. In 2006 she retired to the Humility of Mary Center and in 2007 to Bishop Drumm, where she resided until her death.

Her funeral was Sept. 30 in Our Lady of Peace Chapel. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery in Maloy.
