Former teacher, Sr. Bly, dies

DUBUQUE – Sister Mary Vivina Bly, BVM, 92, died Sept. 17 at Marian Hall in Dubuque.
A native of Clinton, she was the daughter of Frank Leo and Marie Helena Agnes (Hook) Bly. On Sept. 8, 1945, she entered the BVM congregation from St. Mary Parish in Clinton. She professed first vows March 19, 1948, and final vows Aug. 15, 1953.

In the Diocese of Davenport, Sr. Bly taught elementary school and was principal at St. James in Washington, Iowa (1976-84). She was an elementary school teacher and/or principal in Dubuque; Rock Island, Chicago and Pontiac, Illinois; Wichita, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she also served as pastoral care minister.

Burial was in Mount Carmel cemetery, Dubuque.
