Events to mark the Roe v. Wade decision that paved the way for abortion on demand will be held this month.
In Bettendorf, the Women’s Choice Center will offer its rosary and program Jan. 22 at the pro-life center. Rosary begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program of prayer, worship and additional prayer inside or across the street on the sidewalk of the Planned Parenthood clinic. Refreshments will follow.
Quad City Right to Life will hold an open house to celebrate 15 years of Life’s Little Treasures Resale Shop. The event is from 1-5 p.m., Jan. 31, at the shop, 2906 Brady St., Davenport. Visit the shop and pro-life educational area and view a 3-D ultrasound video. Prizes will be given away every hour.
North Lee County Right to Life will hold its annual march Jan. 23 starting at 10:30 a.m. The march begins at Tenth Street and Avenue F in Fort Madison, goes through downtown and ends at McAleer Hall. Refreshments will be served.
Iowa Right to Life will hold its fourth annual Midwest March for Life Jan. 16 in Des Moines.
“Send the message throughout Iowa and the Midwest: We have not been silent! We will not be silent! We are the voice for the voiceless — the unborn, the infirm and the elderly. We will not rest until every life, born and unborn, is safe from the pervasive culture of death,” said Jenifer Bowen, executive direction of Iowa Right to Life.
The morning begins with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. At 11 a.m. participants will meet on the west steps of the Iowa State Capitol, 1007 E. Grand Ave. Signs will be distributed. Signs depicting graphic images or that condemn or are hateful will not be allowed.
The march begins at 12:30 p.m. with prayer and opening remarks by government officials, Iowa bishops, pastors and keynote speaker Melissa Ohden, the founder of Abortion Survivors Network. The march ends around 2:30 p.m. at the Iowa Supreme Court with a closing prayer.
A luncheon will be held at the Iowa Events Center from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Other speakers will give talks then. Pro-life organizations will have booths on display at the center.
A freewill offering will be taken to help defray costs of the Midwest March for Life and luncheon. Reservations are requested for attendance at the Roe v. Wade Effect luncheon program as soon as possible. Visit the Iowa Right to Life website at www.iowaRTL.org and click on the “RSVP for the luncheon” button.
