Call to vocations is growing

Facebooktwittermail

My Dear People,

One of the most remarkable passages in the Gospels is the call of the first disciples. In the space of just a few moments, Jesus called four fishermen — Peter, Andrew, James and John — who left everything to follow Jesus. The Gospel passage depicts an instantaneous and wholehearted response to Jesus: “They immediately left their boat and their father and followed him.”

We have 14 men who have given a wholehearted response to discerning the priesthood. I am pleased and proud of these men for having the courage to embark on this journey of formation and academic studies.

All of us are able to pray for our seminarians. Today I am asking you to assist these men in their journey of discernment. It is my hope that many of you will be able to support them financially.

You may be thinking that you made a donation to our Annual Diocesan Appeal and part of this income supported Seminarian Education. The good news is we have more seminarians than we have had for many years and additional financial help is needed.

A brochure with pictures of four seminarians along with quotes from them has been produced. Our video has the other 10 seminarians speaking about their journey and can be found on our diocesan website — www.davenportdiocese.org.

Our next ordination will be June 4. All are welcome, especially if you have never been to a priesthood ordination. Watch The Catholic Messenger for more details. Thank you for the many ways you serve the Diocese and live as a member of the People of God.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Sinceramente suyo en Cristo,
