With the fast pace of today’s lifestyle, families don’t always have a lot of time to spend together, observes Don Boucher, director of the diocesan Office of Faith Formation. “There are so many things that pull families apart.”

CIA 1That’s why he is so excited that his office is offering families an opportunity to bond, to grow in faith and participate in service projects this summer through CIA-Family Style. The program, inspired by the long-running Catholics in Action youth service format, will take place in Muscatine July 7-10.

“It provides something faith-based that gives families a chance to have an experience together,” Boucher said. Both nuclear and extended families of all ages are welcome to participate.

The diocese is currently working with Muscatine Center for Social Action and Rebuilding Together in Muscatine to establish projects and work sites.
Families will arrive at the Mazzuchelli Center by 6:30 p.m. July 7 for a light meal and orientation session. The next two days will begin with a prayer, followed by several hours at a service site. Families will return to the Mazzuchelli Center for free time, an evening program and night prayer. On the final day, families will conclude their experience with a general session, Mass and a wrap-up.

During CIA-Family Style, families will be able to sleep inside the Mazzuchelli Center, camp out on the center’s grounds or sleep at home if they live locally. Families will be able to use the showers and other center amenities throughout their stay.

The cost to participate is $45 per person with a $200 maximum per family. This includes lodging, meals and all program materials. Every effort will be made to ensure all family members can serve together, but if a service site has an age restriction, daycare can be arranged at no cost.

Registration is now open and will continue until the program is full; participation is limited 50 people. Register online at http://www.davenportdiocese.org/faithform/CIA.htm or call the Office of Faith Formation for more information at (563) 888-4240.
