Sisters holding a retreat

The Sisters of St. Benedict of St. Mary Monastery in Rock Island, Ill., are holding a retreat intended for singers and non-singers alike Aug. 19-20.
Join participants in using your voice to deepen a sense of communion with others and to gain sacred respect and wonder in the face of all nature. You will sing easy-to-learn, playfully challenging songs that speak to critical themes — spiritual, environmental, social, interpersonal — in a way that intends to bring joy, a sense of success and an expression of shared meaning.
Follow along as participants relax into the voices they were born to sing with, sharing simple songs that can reshape the world. Community song leader Liz Rog will lead this music retreat. She is a song leader in the global Ubuntu tradition. She lives in the Driftless Area of northeast Iowa with her family, where she leads weekly community singing for all ages and hosts guests at Fern Hollow Cabin, her ancestral home.
The retreat begins Aug. 19 (registration: 6:30 p.m.; evening session: 7-9 p.m.). It continues on Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fee is $70. The local community is invited for a community sing, Aug. 20 from 2-4 p.m. by the lake. That event is a freewill offering.
