Clinton — The Franciscan Peace Center hosts Ted Talk discussions every Tuesday on the Sisters of St. Francis Facebook page. Watch Wael Ghonim – “Let’s design social media that drives real change.” Then join conversations beginning at 11 a.m. on the Facebook page. Read what others have to say and contribute to the conversation.
Clinton — Franciscan Peace Center’s ongoing Film Festival continues Aug. 18 with “Life in a day.” The film focuses Life in a Day is a user-generated, feature-length documentary shot on a single day — July 24, 2010, using more than 80,000 videos submitted to YouTube. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.; no cost to attend.
LITURGY/PRAYER
Burlington — The parishes of Des Moines County will offer a Red, White and Blue Mass Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at St. John Church. The Mass honors fire and emergency personnel, those in the medical profession, and police and law enforcement. Bishop Martin Amos will celebrate the open Mass. Davenport — A healing Mass will be held Aug. 11 at St. Alphonsus Parish. Confessions at 6 p.m., praise and worship music at 6:30 p.m., Mass at 7 p.m. After Mass, stay and have the opportunity to be prayed over by one of the prayer ministry teams for physical, emotional or spiritual healing or for a greater release of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Davenport — Sacred Heart Cathedral has added a 7:15 a.m. Mass each Sunday.
Davenport — Father Ed O’Melia celebrates Mass every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Genesis West Hospital chapel.
Keokuk — All Saints will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 1-6 p.m. Aug. 10 with Benediction at 6 p.m.

Bettendorf — Widows and Widowers from St. John Vianney Parish in Bettendorf meet the third Wednesday of each month at noon in the dining room at Bettendorf Hy-Vee, 2900 Devils Glen Road. Purchase what you want for lunch. This is a time of hospitality. The group hopes you will join them. Bring a friend.
Iowa City — Understanding Your Grief is a professionally led ongoing support group for people whose spouse or significant other has died in the last three years. Davenport — Holy Family Parish invites all parishioners, past parishioners, fellow parishioners and the public to a homecoming celebration Sept. 18. An outdoor Mass starts the day at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch (free will offering) and festivities until the closing at 2 p.m. At that time rosary will be recited in the Holy Family rosary garden. In case of inclement weather, activities will be held at All Saints Catholic School. Activities that day include games, display of artwork by All Saints students, guided tours of the church and school, a memories table and parishes events and activities tables.
Davenport — Black and White Gala will be held Aug. 12 at St. Ambrose University. Mass with Bishop Martin Amos begins at 5:30 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel. Silent auction, dining, raffles and more follow in Rogalski Center. Tickets are $30 per person. Goose Lake — Assumption & St. Patrick Parish in Charlotte is hosting a beef & pork dinner on Aug. 14 from 3-7 p.m. The event will be held at the Millennium Ballroom in Goose Lake. Carry-outs are available. Cost is $10 for adults, $5.50 for children 4-12 years and free for ages 4 and under. Tickets available at the door the day of the event. There will also be a gift basket silent auction, children’s games, bingo and a country store.
Petersville — Immaculate Conception Parish will hold its annual beef and pork dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 28. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Mass will be celebrated in the church at 11 a.m. Also a country store and raffle will be held. Carryouts available and handicap accessible.
Rock Island, Ill. — A Praying Icon Workshop on the Mystery of the Visitation Icon will be held Aug. 7-12 in Farrell Hall at St. Pius X Parish. The event begins Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. and concludes Aug. 12 at noon. Hours the other days are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. No painting experience needed. Ages 13 and older can attend.
