WHEATLAND — Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat presents its annual “Spirit of the Prairie” event Aug. 21 from 3-6 p.m. at the Prairie in the countryside near Wheatland.
Guests will be free to spend time indoors and outside, shop at a silent art auction where you can meet and greet the artists, taste local food and drink and enjoy live musical entertainment. Tour the retreat center buildings and the prairie; see the “Cosmic Walk” featuring the Universe Story, view lush gardens of flowers and produce, walk around the pond or in the outdoor labyrinth, a pattern with a purpose.
New this year is a silent auction of artwork created by local artists.
Musical guests include the Barley House Band playing Irish tunes plus Nick Vasquez on piano singing everyone’s favorites.
The Prairie is known for its food with in-season ingredients coming from the prairie gardens and fields as well as neighboring farms. Local wines and beers will also be served.
Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, a ministry of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, provides hospitality and service in a sacred space of peace and beauty that promotes respect for all creation in the tradition of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
Cost is $50 per person with proceeds benefitting The Prairie Retreat.
Make reservations on-line at www.chmiowa.org. Or call (563) 323-9466 to receive the official invitation by mail.
