The State Fire Marshal is inviting feedback and comment from stakeholders regarding the retail sale of consumer fireworks licensing program. The administrative rules were written and filed as emergency rules following the passage of SF 489. An informal stakeholder meeting was held and comments were received before the rules were filed. The rule-making process continues, and the final administrative rules will be written in the coming weeks.
The formal public comment hearing for the administrative rules is Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, starting at 10 a.m. in the public conference room at the Oran Pape Building, 215 E. 7th St., Des Moines. Comments may be made during this public comment hearing. Comments may also be provided in writing at any time prior to Sept. 7, either by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail directed to Iowa Department of Public Safety, Rules Coordinator, 215 E. 7th St., Des Moines, Iowa, 50319.
We want to hear from our stakeholders, and we want your feedback and comments as to what worked and what changes you would like to see. These comments are very important to us so that we can create a good licensing program with a strong emphasis on safety. We are also starting our planning for the 2018 summer fireworks season now, as some of the changes may take time to implement. All of the comments we receive will be included in the report on the public comment hearing, along with the State Fire Marshal’s response to them. The comments will all be considered in drafting the final administrative rule, whether or not the changes are included.
