Due to ongoing concerns posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Ambrose University’s spring commencement ceremonies will not be held in-person on May 9.

“We truly are saddened to make this difficult decision because we know any student’s graduation from St. Ambrose University is a milestone achievement worthy of celebration with family, friends, and classmates,” said Sister Joan Lescinski, CSJ, the university’s president. “These truly challenging final months of the spring 2020 semester have been difficult for us all, and we feel deeply that the traditions graduating seniors across the country and the world are missing in their final semester are a significant sacrifice.”

The university is considering opportunities to celebrate the graduating Class of 2020 on that day through some means of virtual delivery. A campus celebration also may be scheduled for a later date.

Diplomas and covers will be mailed to students. In addition, all members of the spring 2020 graduating class have the opportunity to participate in the winter 2020 commencement ceremonies on Dec. 19 at the River Center in Davenport, or in the spring commencement ceremonies on May 15, 2021, at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Illinois.

The Registrar’s Office will issue instructions later this year on how to participate in one of those future commencement ceremonies.

The university is engaging with students, faculty, staff and various university stakeholders to create an alternate schedule of commencement-related events and will announce those plans in the coming days.
