Most people are familiar with the fierce competition on the football field and basketball court. Sept. 26 will bring a fierce competition of another kind. Chess lovers from eastern Iowa and western Illinois will compete in the Archangel Gambit Tournament held at Prince of Peace School in Clinton. This will mark the third year of competition with past participants coming from as far away as the Quad-Cities and Maquoketa.
Katherine Atkinson, high school science teacher at Prince of Peace College Preparatory, also serves as chess coach and tournament director. The Archangel Gambit Tournament is one of four chess tournaments planned for this school year. For information go to http://classjump.com/chesstournaments.
