Hills — A healing Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Msgr. Marvin Mottet will be the celebrant. The sacrament of reconciliation will be offered starting at 6:15 p.m. 

Iowa City — Centering Prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.

SOCIALS

Davenport — St. Alphonsus Parish will host its annual festival at Birchwood & Boies avenues on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 5-9 p.m. The parish will be serving pork loin dinner for $6 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event also will include a concession stand, children’s games, adult games, inflatable games, a huge raffle, country store and entertainment. All are invited.

East Pleasant Plain — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish will host a pork loin and turkey dinner with salad and a dessert bar, bazaar and auction Sept. 20. Meal is served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The large auction begins at 1 p.m. A raffle, country store, craft store, kids’ games and more will be featured. Jeff Adrian will provide music. Cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 3-12 and free for children younger than 3. The church has an elevator for patrons’ convenience.

Farmington —  St. Boniface Parish will host its annual fall dinner Sept. 20 at the air-conditioned Harmony High School, 6 miles north of Farmington. Roast turkey, lamb and pork will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. Event also includes a cakewalk, bingo, raffle, door prizes, gift baskets, bazaar and bake sale.  A silent auction will take place for a 10-person meal hosted by Father Apo Mpanda.

Georgetown — St. Patrick’s annual God’s Portion Day event will take place Sunday, Sept. 6. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., and a roast beef/fried chicken dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids’ games and a country store will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m. A silent auction will be held from noon to 4 p.m. A live auction on the south church lawn will begin at 1:30 p.m. A lawn social will take place at 4 p.m. A raffle also is slated.

Hills — St. Joseph Church is hosting a farmers’ market on Fridays from 4-7 p.m. Vendors may call (319) 679-2271 to reserve a space. No fee is required, but donations are appreciated.

Lone Tree — St. Mary Parish will host its fall auction Sept. 27. A silent auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a regular auction will follow at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. Participants can bid on homemade pies, cakes and crafts.

Muscatine — An old-fashioned chicken supper will take place Sept. 27 from 4-6:30 p.m. in Gannon Hall.  Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 5 and younger.  Meal includes fried chicken, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, roll, homemade desserts and drinks. The dinner will raise funds for the Catholic Daughters scholarship program. Tickets will be sold at Masses Sept. 12-13 and 19-20 and are available in the parish office.

Oxford Junction — Sacred Heart Parish will host its annual fall festival Sept. 20.  A polka Mass will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a chicken and kolache dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Springbrook — Ss. Peter & Paul Parish will host a ribeye steak fry and social Sept. 26. Mass begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served from 4:30-8 p.m. Menu includes 14-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, green beans, coleslaw and bun. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door. Victor — St. Bridget Parish will host a chicken and ham family-style supper Sept. 20 from 3:30-7 p.m. in the  air-conditioned, handicapped-accesible church basement.  Menu includes fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing, corn, apple salad, Amana bread, butter, coffee, milk and homemade pie. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger.  The event includes a country store and quilt raffle. Carryouts are available; delivery is offered in Victor.

WORKSHOPS

Newton — On Sept 29., Iowa Interfaith Power & Light will host a workshop to address the questions and needs of ministers. The workshop, “Faith in a Changing Climate,” is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Christian Conference Center in Newton and is open to ministers of all faiths. This is an opportunity to learn from experts more about climate change and its religious dimensions, as well as the simple ways that your faith community and its members can become part of the solution and save money in the process.
