Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral Sept. 18. Confessions start at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:45 p.m., and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.

MEETINGS

Bettendorf — Scripture classes on the Acts of the Apostles will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in the gathering area this fall. One class will begin Sept. 14 and be held on Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. The other class will begin Sept. 17 and be held on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. Call Deacon John Weber at (563) 332-7638 to register, or sign up on a sheet provided in the gathering area.

RETREATS

Rock Island, Ill. — “The Loss of Jobs and the Book of Job: Suffering, Innocence and the Economy of Salvation” will be presented at the Benet House Retreat Center, St. Mary Monastery, Sept. 17 from 7-8:30 p.m. Professor Jason Mahn will explore lessons that lead participants to the vitality of Christian hope. Wheatland — A Centering Prayer retreat will take place at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat near Wheatland Friday, Sept. 18 from 7-9 p.m. and/or Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9-3:30 p.m. The retreat is for those with experience in Centering Prayer. Friday evening will include Centering Prayer, video and discussion. Saturday will include prayer, the DVD “Living in the Image and Likeness of God” by Father Ron Rolheiser, discussion, lunch, time for solitude, walks outside and Lectio Divina. Cost is $30 for Friday overnight, which includes a room, snacks and drinks; $20 for Saturday, including lunch and materials; or $50 for both days. Register by Sept. 16. Camanche — Church of the Visitation will host a fundraising breakfast Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon in the parish hall. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, suasage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, coffee, milk and juice. Proceeds go toward the building fund.

Coralville — A garage sale to benefit Johnson County Right to Life will take place Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1719 11th St. Donations of items to sell will be accepted at that address on Sept. 10 from noon to 6 p.m. or by special arrangement by emailing judee-albert@jcrtl.org.

Davenport — A Theology on Tap event for young adults will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Phil & Larry’s Saloon. Father Thomas Hennen will present “Catholic Morals Toolkit: Basics for Living Life in Christ.”

Davenport — St. Alphonsus Parish will host its annual festival at Birchwood & Boies avenues on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 5-9 p.m. The parish will be serving pork loin dinner for $6 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event also will include a concession stand, children’s games, adult games, inflatable games, a huge raffle, country store and entertainment. All are invited.

Dodgeville — St. Mary Parish will host its Autumn Fest Sept. 13 from 11a.m.-2 p.m. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and a country store, children’s games, mini-raffle and silent auction will occur during that time. Mini-raffle drawings and the main raffle begin at 2 p.m.

East Pleasant Plain — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish will host a pork loin and turkey dinner with salad and a dessert bar, bazaar and auction Sept. 20. Meal is served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The large auction begins at 1 p.m. A raffle, country store, craft store, kids’ games and more will be featured. Jeff Adrian will provide music. Cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 3-12 and free for children younger than 3. The church has an elevator for patrons’ convenience.

Farmington —  St. Boniface Parish will host its annual fall dinner Sept. 20 at the air-conditioned Harmony High School, 6 miles north of Farmington. Roast turkey, lamb and pork will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. Event also includes a cakewalk, bingo, raffle, door prizes, gift baskets, bazaar and bake sale.  A silent auction will take place for a 10-person meal hosted by Father Apo Mpanda.

Oxford Junction — Sacred Heart Parish will host its annual fall festival Sept. 20.  A polka Mass will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a chicken and kolache dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Victor — St. Bridget Parish will host a chicken and ham family-style supper Sept. 20 from 3:30-7 p.m. in the  air-conditioned, handicapped-accesible church basement.  Menu includes fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing, corn, apple salad, Amana bread, butter, coffee, milk and homemade pie. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger.  The event includes a country store and quilt raffle. Carryouts are available; delivery is offered in Victor.

West Liberty —  St. Joseph Church will host Festival Latino 2009 Sept. 12 at the Muscatine County Fair Grounds. Folkloric Balet and DJ Escorpion will be featured from 3-9 p.m. Tacos, tamales, hot dogs, corn on the cob, sodas and more will be served from 3-9 p.m. Crowning of the queen will take place at 6:30 p.m., and band Gusto Norteño will perform from 7-9 p.m.
