John M. Case, 74, a resident of Davenport died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Bettendorf Health Care Center, following a brief illness.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport.

John Marion Case was born December 17, 1936 in Davenport, a son of Chlorus D. and Florence G. (Britt) Case. He graduated from the former St. Ambrose Academy and attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport. John was proud to serve our country in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957.

He was united in marriage to Joan B. Darling on March 9, 1968 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.

John retired from the Canadian Pacific Railway as an engineer in 1997. During his nearly forty-year railroad career he had worked for the Rock Island, Soo and Milwaukee Lines.

His memberships include the Knight of Columbus 532, Davenport, and St. Anthony’s Church.

John enjoyed fishing, and cherished the trips to the cabin in Northern Wisconsin. He had also been an avid hunter in earlier years.

Memorials can be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share, or to Fr. Conroy’s Vineyard of Hope.

Survivors include his wife, Joan, Davenport, a son, Jim Case, Ames, Iowa, a sister, JoAnn Fennell, Stanwood, Washington, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Patrick Case 2006, a sister, Barbara Oberhaus, and a brother, James Case. May they rest in peace.
