Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jill A. McGuire, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove. The family will greet friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. that all are invited to attend.
Jill passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jill Ann Leese was born January 11, 1951 in Davenport, a daughter of Richard Allen “Dick” and Virginia Ruth (Murphy) Leese. Jill graduated from Assumption High School, class of 1969. She then attended nursing school at Scott Community College. She was united in marriage to Michael Eugene McGuire on October 9, 1970 at Holy Family Church.
Jill was employed by the Genesis Medical Center Eldridge as a triage nurse. She had been employed for nearly twenty years with Genesis.
She was a member of Holy Family Church, a volunteer Eucharistic Minister for Genesis, a volunteer for Birthright, member of the Catholic Service Board, was on the Patient Advisory Board at Genesis and was an active member of the Assumption High School Booster Club. Jill was instrumental in the creation of Assumption High School’s annual gala, April Knight.
She cherished her family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was happiest when she was hosting and entertaining gatherings of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or to a scholarship fund to be established at Assumption High School.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Mike, children and their spouses, Sean and Amy McGuire, Davenport, Ryan and Mandy McGuire, Ames, Iowa, Dr. Grant McGuire, Santa Cruz, California; grandchildren, Shannon and Jack McGuire and Abby and Tommy McGuire; siblings, Kathleen (Dr. Kenneth) Meyer, Davenport; Dennis (Pam) Leese, Edina, MN; Robert (Jeannine) Leese, LeClaire, Iowa; Connie (John) Nutt, West Des Moines, IA; Dr. Richard Leese, Bloomington, IL; David (Carol) Leese, Allen, Texas; Mary Beth Leese, Davenport; Daniel (Katy) Leese, Mill Valley, CA; Grant (Jane) Leese, Edina, MN; mother-in-law, Jeanne McGuire, Davenport, a sister-in-law, Peggy (Rich) Wiebler, Long Grove, and brothers-in-law, Jim (Beth) McGuire, Forest City, Iowa, Jeff (Shelley) McGuire, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; Tom (Rebecca) McGuire, Portland, Oregon; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, Dally Leese, and her father-in-law, Bill McGuire. May they rest in peace.
