Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Be a Witness of Charity is the theme of the 2015 Peter’s Pence Collection for the Works of the Holy Father which will be taken up the weekend of June 27-28.
“This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (Jn 13:35)
There are many places around the globe where the church struggles to be a visible sign of charity, but, thankfully, the Holy Father is a witness of charity for Catholics everywhere. Pope Francis has continued to remind us through his actions that we must serve our brothers and sisters in order to be true disciples of Christ. In poor dioceses where many depend on the church for social and pastoral support, in regions where Catholics are persecuted for their faith, and in nations overloaded with refugees or victims of war and natural disasters, the works done by the Holy Father help the church extend charity to those most in need of assistance.
The Peter’s Pence Collection unites us in solidarity with the Holy Father and gives us the opportunity to be witnesses of charity and to extend a sign of peace to the body of Christ around the world. Our gifts to this annual collection help the Holy Father to strengthen dioceses, religious orders, and struggling communities of faith.
I ask you to be a witness of charity and to give generously to this special collection for the charitable works of Pope Francis who depends on our support. Together let us ask the Lord to continue to bless our Holy Father and us, as well as those in need throughout the world. Be assured of my prayer-filled thanks for your ongoing generosity.
Ser testigos de la caridad
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo:
Ser Testigo de la Caridad es el tema del Óbolo de San Pedro del 2015 para las obras pastorales del Santo Padre, la cual será hecha el fin de semana del 27 y 28 de junio.
“En esto conocerán todos que son mis discípulos, si se tienen amor los unos a los otros.” (Jn. 13,35)
Hay muchos lugares alrededor del mundo donde la Iglesia se esfuerza por ser signo visible de la caridad; pero, gracias a Dios, el Santo Padre es un testimonio de la caridad de los católicos de todo el mundo. Papa Francisco ha seguido recordándonos a través de sus acciones que nosotros debemos servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas a fin de ser verdaderos discípulos de Cristo. En las diócesis pobres donde muchos dependen de la Iglesia para el apoyo social y pastoral, en las regiones donde los católicos son perseguidos por su fe y en naciones sobrecargados con refugiados o víctimas de la guerra y los desastres naturales, los trabajos realizados por el Santo Padre ayudan a que la Iglesia extienda la caridad a los que más necesitados se encuentran.
El Óbolo de San Pedro nos une en solidaridad con el Santo Padre y nos da la oportunidad de ser testigos de la caridad y extender un signo de paz al Cuerpo de Cristo en todo el mundo. La colecta anual ayuda al Santo Padre a fortalecer las diócesis, las órdenes religiosas y comunidades de fe que tienen dificultades económicas.
Les pido ser testigos de la caridad y den generosamente a esta colecta especial para las obras de caridad del Papa Francisco, quien depende de nuestro apoyo. Juntos pidamos al Señor que continúe bendiciendo a nuestro Santo Padre y a nosotros, tanto como aquellos que están en necesidad en todo el mundo. Tengan la seguridad que mis oraciones están llenas de agradecimiento por su constante generosidad.
