Sister Mary Janice McCann, CHM, died Feb. 24 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa. She was 91 years old.

Born Mary Lorraine McCann in Dunlap, Iowa, in 1926, she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1944, professing vows in 1947. She earned degrees from Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa and Marycrest College in Davenport.

In the Diocese of Davenport, she taught or served as principal at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf and St. Patrick and St. Mary schools in Ottumwa. She was plant supervisor at Ottumwa Heights College from 1976-1982. Later, she engaged in hospital service, serving as a medical records clerk at Mercy Hospital in Davenport.

She retired to the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport in 1995, where she greeted callers as a switchboard operator. She moved to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place March 2 at 11 a.m. at the Humility of Mary Center. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvalry Cemetery, Davenport.
