This April, the Diocese of Davenport is sponsoring separate, one-day retreats for men and women during the season of Lent to offer individuals an opportunity to step away from the busyness of life and focus on their relationship with God.

On Saturday, April 6, St. Mary Parish in Solon will host the Men’s Retreat from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Carlos Obando from the Loyola Institute of Spirituality in Orange, Calif., will serve as retreat facilitator. Drawing from the call of John (1:35-39), participants will ponder the question, “Have you ever wondered what does it really mean to follow Jesus?” The call of Jesus to follow him was not an invitation that would lead followers to emotional and spiritual slavery, but to be better people, parents, better spouses transformed by his spirit and according to his heart. This retreat will provide time away from the daily routine. Participants will be praying, reflecting and sharing their faith with others.

The following Saturday, April 13, the Women’s Retreat will be hosted at St. Mary Parish in Williamsburg from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. The retreat facilitator is Ana Ibarra who serves as the Coordinator for Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Las Vegas. Bringing with her a wealth of experience and personal spirituality, Ibarra will break open how Mary’s “Yes” to the message of Gabriel calls the faithful to a deeper relationship with God not only in the silent moments of life, but also, and especially, in the loudest and most hectic moments. Through stories and reflection, Ibarra will call all women to pray, laugh, share, create and change the world.
